Plums
Because their flavor and texture is so much better when picked ripe off the tree, stone fruits like plums, nectarines and plumcots are popular to grow in home gardens and home orchards. When selecting plum trees to buy online, first determine if they will grow in your hardiness zone or grow zone. Plum and nectarine trees grow best and produce the most fruit when they are planted in an area that receives at least six hours or more of direct sunlight daily. Some fruit tree varieties, like the Stanley Plum, are self-pollinating, while other plum trees require another variety for pollination. Fruit trees are available in standard and dwarf sizes. Standard fruit trees generally produce more fruit, but take up more space and usually require a ladder for pruning and harvesting. Dwarf varieties are more manageable and easier to fit into smaller gardens and landscapes.
