Ferns
Some of the easiest perennials to grow, ferns add wonderful color and texture to shade gardens, woodland areas and containers. Fern fronds are also popular for use in cut-floral arrangements. Many fern varieties are native to the United States. These deer-resistant plants grow best in rich, loamy soil with good drainage and in partial shade to full shade. Avoid planting ferns where they receive direct afternoon sunlight. Most fern varieties can be grown in zones 3-8. Perennial ferns can be planted as ground covers, in groups or as accent plants. When buying ferns for sale online, make sure to consider their mature height and spread and any other growing requirements they may have.
